Absolute film classic with a political message that has been reviled by the "progressives" among us: crime pays simply because the fight against leftist sentiment has become too weak, while the "strong arm" of the law is always at a disadvantage anyway...if you see how much cost 1 psychopath with a sniper rifle can hunt the community. A person who is 100% sure of himself cannot be convicted by ill-gotten evidence, even if force majeure is involved...the law can be as brutal as it is unjust and have crazy consequences. The rigid dogma "rules are rules" is clearly discarded.
Beautiful images of San Francisco accompanied by a beautiful, atmospheric 70s score. Also very dark night scenes but it is all to follow. Andrew Robinson is a good psycho and would later excel in Deep Space Nine. Eastwood here plays a much more interesting and vulnerable hero than the Nameless Stranger in his westerns.
There is not a moment in the film of stretch or dullness, humor here and there, to-the-point dialogue, interspersed with action, pursuit, and showing the kind of sad decadence we don't see much in that other classic, Taxi Driver. could experience later.
And I always thought Dirty Harry had a Magnum .45! Here's a .44! Is already powerful enough to shoot elephants...but keep a close eye on the number of shots, 5 or 6...

“There is one question, Inspector Callahan: Why do they call you "Dirty Harry"?”
Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry, an iconic character that everyone has heard of. In 2018 you have seen countless such idiosyncratic police officers, but they are all indebted to Dirty Harry. And rightly so, because Eastwood is unparalleled in the role and can extend his cowboy/western approach to the streets of San Francisco. The story is conventional and the killer isn't the smartest and most charismatic bad guy you've ever seen. But Eastwood and the somewhat gray and dark atmosphere (and cinematography) make up for it.

Not very bad and quite attractive, but also outdated. Certainly visually, technically and in terms of acting. And Eastwood doesn't quite fit in this role either. The story itself is nice, especially because in the beginning there are some smaller things to do before returning to the main story, which also helps in the atmosphere and development of the character of Eastwood. Nice to see it once, but that's about it. 3.0*.
