Milo Tindle and Andrew Wyke have something in common, which is Andrew's wife. In order not to lose a fortune on the divorce, Andrew has devised a plan. Milo is supposed to rob Andrew's house and so Andrew can claim the insurance money. Remake of the 1972 original of the same name.

The film has a surprising and beautiful cinematographic effect that remains fascinating throughout the film, despite the fact that the film was shot on only 1 (!) location. Now I've actually had the positive too, because the rest is about nothing at all. I mean: What does the director want to achieve or say, what is his idea? Now it actually ends up in vagueness and alienation and leads the whole movie to nothing and just makes no sense. The beginning is reasonably manageable, despite the many dialogues that all remain fairly distant (despite the black humor), but things go completely wrong after the part with the agent.
Then it all seems to derail and the level plummets into the abyss on all fronts and the viewer is left with furrowed eyebrows and Kenneth Branagh seems to get rid of it very easily.

I didn't really know what to expect, but I gave it a try. I found it very good in the beginning and I was intrigued by the story, but after the twist I found it a lot less, especially the last fifteen minutes I didn't really like it much anymore.
The cast did a good job, not wow, although I thought Michael Caine was slightly stronger in this movie than Jude Law.
It didn't bother me that the film was shot in almost one location.
Well, I thought the film was good for once, but not more than that.

Strange, four years and eight months without posting a movie with two such famous actors... I'll change that. Watched the original from 1972 again yesterday, revised this version today, and everything in it is more: the jewels are now not worth £250,000 but around a million, the pace is faster (the film is therefore not 133 minutes but only 85 minutes). on DVD) and the old mansion has been exchanged for a hi-tech interior that feels quite inhospitable. The odd camera angles, bizarre interiors, mirrored surfaces, monochrome lighting plans staggered from room to room, recordings from Caine's CTC cameras and all the gadgets (including the remote control with seemingly one button for all devices) makes it difficult at first to "get into it". ", but once "inside" I thought it was great fun again. This time no dressing up and considerably less emphasis on the difference in position, but the (new) sharp dialogues and the excellent playing of the two protagonists have remained happy. (Many people here dislike Jude Law's portrayal; I don't know if that has to do with a general revulsion to his head or his playing here, but I have no complaints about the latter, and the former. It's a shame about the third act, which not only differs completely from its counterpart from 1972 (to which Pinter and Branagh have every right, by the way) but also derails with that homosexual overture that really comes out completely the sky is falling, and that ultimately lowers my rating a bit.
