I've never been a Costner fan. Made some dragons from movies (Waterworld, Dances with wolves,...the movie with Houston. All movies he didn't fit in....But this movie did and how. This is his role, cool, calm and collected, with no emotion he plays a serial killer. And I think serial killers are like that too...Disturbed, but emotionless..I enjoyed the scenes with his alter ego William Hurt the most.He was hired to To avoid endless monologues by Kev, Hurt fulfills that role with verve. The role of Demi Moore (who I have always found an unpleasant actress..) is completely superfluous, also the fuss about her divorce.. what should the story have to do with it? "The film didn't need that at all. It did have a deeper elaboration of the murderous daughter. You can feel the end coming, but that doesn't matter. Two hours of fascination watching this film and tribute to Kevin (and Hurt). A surprisingly good Hollywood product. Oh...one definition of a very good movie is that you don't want the movie to end. ...This movie could have gone on for another hour for me.....Finally something good

Pretty decent thriller with Kevin Costner. An actor who is not in the favorite drawer of many. Here in this Mr. Brooks is well cast and also with a good performance by a serial killer who struggles with a split personality. Costner brings his character with flair, coolness and ruthlessness. Great story that keeps you guessing until the very end. The double role with William Hurt was also successful. We thought for a while how to best portray something like this. The results are impressive.

The film also has some lesser moments. As I read here, the other subplots are not very interesting. The divorce troubles of Demi Moore, for example, or that loose cannon that ran free with the unnecessary shoot-out as its lowest point, would have been better skipped and put in the further deepening of Earl Brooks himself or his daughter.

Very nice.

Remarkably good film with a chewed-up concept. I didn't exactly know director Evans either, and his career on MM, which only consists of 2 films, doesn't really raise expectations. Fortunately Mr. Brooks a very pleasant surprise.

I don't know what it is about this movie, but it just does a certain thing right. It just works in a crazy way. The atmosphere is good, the tightness from the direction works and the scenes all seem to add something. A lot can go wrong in a movie like this, but Evans still manages to keep the bar high.

Costner and Cook in the lead roles do not promise positive expectations, but it turned out very well. Costner plays really well and knows how to give his role just the right look. Cook was not too bad for me, although he has to give it a bit too forced and above all too clearly a comical slant.

The other crew members are also doing very well, especially Moore was not too bad for me in the end. Normally these kinds of roles, the wise agent, irritate me immensely. Still, it annoyed me in Mr. Brooks not. That is not due to the deeper layer that the role gets, but simply to the appearance I think. It's just not annoying.

Clichés enough, but the film knows how to deal with it quickly. Furthermore, the film loses some power after 70-80 minutes and cannot regain the momentum and tightness that was good in the first hour. It ends very appropriately, but in the end the surprise is just a bit off and the atmosphere can't stay in it for 120 minutes.

Furthermore, it is not all that exciting, but mainly fun and tightly executed. Costner plays an extremely charming killer and the characters all have enough depth and especially the right appearance to remain fascinating. This is a nice movie, I really liked it.
