I can't remember which blues legend said it, but I once read a statement that God created man and woman, and with them the blues.

This film certainly does justice to the blues. The music is very nice, and to my surprise, Samuel L. Jackson can also sing and play. The plot should not be very big, it all looks nice, and partly thanks to the music, the whole is very atmospheric. Furthermore, excellent acting by Ricci and Jackson, and Timberlake is also one hundred percent not too bad.

The effect can make or break a film like this. In this case, the strong brooding atmosphere helps enormously. 3*.

Yet something different.

Watched this movie mainly because of the absurd concept and expectations of a Grindhouse-esque movie. The poster certainly suggests that you are going to watch such a type of film. In the end a lot of the best in that area and we got a much more humane film.

Too bad it turned out to be a less enjoyable movie. You can wake me up to some crazy story but if I had known that the chaining was only about 30-45 minutes I would have thought twice before shooting the movie. It's a shame really, that's exactly what the film can score on.

In any case, the acting is above average. Meanwhile, Jackson can do this with his eyes closed. He remains a good actor. Also shocked by Ricci. This doesn't seem like the type of role she normally plays given her innocent appearance. But at least she does it with gusto.

In the end, the film is mostly too long. The directing is a bit lacking. Some nudity here and there to show some muscles behind the directing, but that too remains fairly well-behaved. The violence is nothing to write home about either. That 16+ is therefore quite misleading. Definitely don't expect a violent binocular.

The drama is solid. It's just too standard. Because despite the fact that the concept is still original, the drama elements remain too well-behaved and therefore too inconspicuous. The drama itself could have been done a bit better. A little more focus and less focus on other side issues that ultimately don't matter much.

It's not bad, but it really takes too long and the direction sings a bit too low. Concepts like this need some smut, and this looks too clean.

Film that in advance seems to be a semi lame affair with an unlikely duo, but nevertheless develops into a film with content around trauma, processing and love for fellow human beings.

Without giving a whole sermon about the fleeting contacts of our time, the distance between people and often confusing physical contact with emotional bonding, the problems surrounding Rae are as poignant as they are symptomatic. A problem whose cause must be sought much earlier. The troubles seem to spiral out of control, however, until they are found by Lazurus, someone whose life is also rough, who can be extremely blunt, but also nurturing.

What at first seems like a humorous gimmick, a half-naked sex addict blonde chained to the radiator, after the introduction of the already quite old term 'Black Snake Moan', the film turns into a more serious piece about trauma and processing. Compulsive acts and redemption are also recognizable elements and especially encountering a fellow human being who recognizes, offers help, persists and shows old-fashioned charity without self-interest, makes this film much more than the crazy trailer suggests.

Blake Snake Moan can therefore be called an extremely interesting, fascinating and humorous film. Timberlake in turn adds nothing, but the music makes up for it a lot.
