The Spanish Main plot
"Loving her . . . taming her . . . called for all his reckless daring!"
Laurent Van Horn, a Dutch captain, is shipwrecked off the coast of Cartagena, an island in the hands of Spain. He and his crew are captured and imprisoned in prison. Fortunately they can escape because they were sentenced to the noose. The couple then decides to take revenge on Spain and to plunder only Spanish ships as pirates. One day they hijack a ship carrying the betrothed of the corrupt governor of Cartagena, the beautiful Francisca. Van Horn forces her to marry him, which does not go down well with the rest of the pirates. Of course, the two really fall in love, but first they have to deal with the governor.
