Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell plot

Surprisingly fun Hammer horror. One of their best from the seventies.
Typical Hammer style with some extra gore.
Fantastic monster, too. It actually looks more like an orangutan than a monster, but that shouldn't spoil the fun.

Cushing once again portrays Frankenstein in an insane and serious manner. Shane Briant also does a solid job as the surgeon who becomes fascinated by Frankenstein's work. Because he performs similar experiments, he ends up in prison. There, he discovers that Cushing's character has blithely continued with his sick experiments.
The atmosphere and setting are quite good, and the sets and costumes look great as always. Unfortunately, I find the story a bit weak. For instance, the plot regarding how Frankenstein managed to continue living in prison is rather flimsy. Furthermore, the idea of transplanting dead brains into a sort of human-ape isn't great either, and the latter's costume looks laughable.
I had also expected a bit more from the finale: perhaps a clash between Briant and Cushing, but unfortunately, this didn't happen. Additionally, the ending struck me as a bit messy and rushed.
Madeline Smith may look stunning in her dress, but a moviegoer wants more than that. Not Fisher's best Hammer work, if you ask me.
