David, who has just lost his job in scrap metal processing, and Marie, a prostitute, both about 20 years old, meet on New Year's Eve and decide to leave Berlin together. David's arm is in plaster due to an accident that forces Marie to prostitute herself to finance their restless journey through the Ruhr. Their love and will to survive guide them through all their problems.
