It was a close call that I would have felt physically ill. Fortunately, the pace was slowed down 'afterwards' so that there was room to recover. Very hard and confronting.

Although Uwe Boll is not always appreciated, he regularly manages to touch a chord with me. First with Rampage, then with Darfur and now with Stoic, the latter of which has made the biggest impression. I have never felt this way while watching a film.

In addition to everything that happens on the screen in terms of filth, a lot of attention has been paid to the cinematography. Everything is coordinated. Gray clothing, gray walls, gray filter, lighting. This draws all attention to what is happening between the prisoners. The interrogations are also very beautifully captured.

This is not a pleasant film to watch and if you want a nice movie to watch, you better leave it alone. Apart from that I can only recommend it, because this is a very special work.

4*

Yet another very interesting film by that good old Boll. Proves once again to have more balls than many directors.

Ultimately I didn't find it very shocking, but that the film is filthy and hard is beyond dispute. Minimalist film that is short enough in duration, and is accompanied by an interesting premise. The interaction between the essential film and the interviews afterwards works, and often gives a closer look into the psyche of the three scumbags. A trio in which Furlong ultimately excels as an actor, although the other two did not do badly either.

For 4* it has too little to offer cinematically I think, it is also a bit too simple for that, but a modest 3.5* are in place. Boll is growing in my esteem again.

So far, a fascinating project by director Uwe Boll, who probably delivers one of his best films with this. The acting in particular stands out positively, a necessary approach when you spend a film exclusively in a specific space with four figures. The revision is not as shocking or rock-hard as the first viewing, but that does not take away from the fact that Stoic always remains fascinating and always finds a way to let things escalate further. The short playing time ensures that not every progress is equally credible, but Boll at least shows that he can handle small and gray projects.
