A film that stands the test of time with ease, and that is very impressive for one from nearly 50 years ago. Even the quality of the tape wouldn't tell the film is that old.

Naturally, it is a film from the 60s, filmed in the 60s no less; I don't think we could easily find a more authentic portrayal of the life of a school class in 1960s London elsewhere. The film has managed to capture the atmosphere of that time well.

The acting, dialogue, costumes, etc. are all perfectly fine. And as the poster indicates, "A story as fresh as the girls in their minis." So go watch it, because it is still a refreshing film, a drama that, despite the dramatic tearjerkers, comes across as pleasantly light and fresh.

Highly recommended, a journey back in time to the classroom of 1967 that is certainly worthwhile.

A nice film about a man who decides to become a teacher when he cannot find any other work. A fairly typical teacher-student film with a rather predictable plot. The turnaround from problem class to model class is also rather quick and easy. The film has not stood the test of time equally well everywhere, but it does provide a fine portrayal of the era, and Sydney Poitier is well cast here.

A corny story about an unemployed engineer (Sidney Poitier) who temporarily teaches at a school in an English working-class neighborhood. The children in the class look like they walked straight out of Grease and appear far too old to still be in school. James Clavell's clumsy direction does not exactly contribute to the right atmosphere, and the camerawork and editing feel very dated. Poitier delivers a nice performance, but even he cannot elevate this to a higher level.
