During the shooting of the horror film Stab 3, a series of murders are committed. One by one, the actors from the cast are brutally killed. Sidney Prescott now lives independently under the sworn name Laura and works as an operator for California Women's Crisis Counseling. Stab 3 is in the works when Gale Weathers [Courteney Cox] is approached by Officer Mark Kincaid [Patrick Dempsey] in connection with the murder of Cotton Weary [Liev Schreiber]. Soon the suspicion arises that the killer is trying to kill the characters in the same order as in Gale's book. But if so, does the killer go after the 'real' person, or would they target the actors who play these characters in Stab 3? More comedy than horror, with entertaining cameos from the likes of Jay & Silent Bob and Carrie Fisher, but it could have been a little more exciting. Note the names of the actors of Stab 3 and Parker Posey is downright hilarious as Jennifer Jolie (!), who closely follows her character Gale Weathers.

Scream 3 is somewhat the black sheep of the series. The first part is an undisputed classic, part 2 is average but entertaining and in my memory the fourth part is back on a fine level. This third part, however, I never found anything to do, is downright boring and gets bogged down in its own interesting stuff. Although the film set is still a cool location, this third part is a bit too meta to be really fun. Still, most things in this area are still successful, and Craven especially knows how to play nicely with the conventions/expectations of the third part in a trilogy. A cameo from someone like Carrie Fisher can still go through with it, and there are a few more scenes. However, exciting moments or any kind of suspense are completely lacking. The biggest scare the movie has to offer is when Courteney Cox's haircut comes into view for the first time, my god. There is not a single memorable kill or death scene in it; the horror element is on the back burner here. Too low. The film also becomes progressively dumber, and the twist is more annoying than cool. Wes Craven really lost his touch here. Fortunately, it all remains entertaining, and it never becomes a very annoying sit. Mainly the main cast remains too nice for that. Neve Campbell has a bit of a glorified supporting role in this part, but the Cox/Arquette duo exudes nice chemistry as always. Small 2.5*, and now luckily again a major improvement in prospect in the form of part 4 (in my memory at least).

It's been a while since I've seen this 3rd movie and I couldn't remember much about it. What I do remember is that I liked this movie the least in the series at the time. After this review I have to admit that I found part 3 a lot more entertaining than part 2.
In this third film, the rules of a trilogy are ridiculed. Just like Scream 2, this third part contains more of the same, but it is all shot a lot more atmospheric. Still, this third part doesn't even come close to the original.
This third part was considerably less well received at the time, but was again a success in the cinemas. Yet it took another 11 years before a part 4 appeared.
There is also an ironic moment in this film. Actor Lance Henriksen gives a monologue in the film about young actresses and their success in the film industry (particularly that they have to work themselves up a certain way). And if they don't want to, they shouldn't have come to Hollywood.
In the year 2000, when this film was released, apparently nobody had heard of #MeToo and Harvey Weinstein was still a successful producer - including this film.
