"All America wants to meet the “Mr. Deeds” of 1941!"
When the politician buys up the newspaper, the editors need a breath of fresh air and the new editor-in-chief has many employees fired. Begging to stay does not help the columnist. As a final contribution, she submits a made-up letter from an unemployed man, John Doe, who threatens to jump off the city tower in protest against politics that do nothing about unemployment. It's a campaign-time political bombshell, but she gets her job back to hire a John Doe, who can make headlines and kill herself before Christmas.
