The Snow Walker plot

While on a routine job in the Arctic wilderness, Pilot Charlie Halliday encounters a small group of Inuit fishermen, including a sick young girl named Kanaalaq. The fishermen ask Charlie to fly her back to a hospital; their only hope that the girl will survive. At first Charlie refuses, but when the fishermen offer him two valuable walrus tusks, the temptation becomes too great.

Good film in which a pilot and a sick Inuit girl crash into the North Pole. An unsurprising course of survival in nature told at a leisurely pace. But the film remains entertaining due to the relationship between the two main characters with their cultural differences and language barrier. The beautiful shots of the landscape also contribute to this. Excellent interplay between Barry Pepper and the debuting Annabella Piugattuk.

Nice detail: director Charles Martin Smith himself was previously seen in the similar Never Cry Wolf.

Nice little movie.

Especially beautiful because of the dialogues between the two people who barely understand each other, the respect for the knowledge of the authentic people of the barren Arctic, and the deserted landscapes. Special in that Barry Pepper doesn't play a supporting role for once, and because of the presence of the beautiful Annabella Piugattuk. Both play convincingly, and the action scenes are well done.

Too bad there's a kind of bland sauce of trauma over the character of Charlie, the flashbacks that are used to bring that into the story do the film little good.

Annabella Piugattuk seemed to have put herself in the spotlight with this role at the time, but unfortunately that didn't translate into bigger roles in more movies. Too bad, I would have liked to see more of her.

Five full stars. Acting, setting, music, construction. Great class...! Annabella Piugattuk, beautiful actress. Barry Pepper strong performance. Cliche? I absolutely don't think so. Very happy that I saw this film... In the end I think it's about sacrifice, love and meeting cultures.
