"Who will his bride be tonight?"
After Jonathan Harker attacks Dracula in his castle, the vampire travels to a nearby town where he sets his sights on the family of Harker's betrothed. The only one who can protect them is Dr. van Helsing, Harker's friend and fellow vampire student. He is determined to defeat Dracula, at any cost.

Of all the Dracula's I've seen so far, I think Christopher Lee's portrayal is the best. At least for now. I'm also secretly curious about Bela Lugosi's performance. Christopher Lee may not be the most dangerous Dracula, but he is the most charming. The horror of Dracula is a very outdated movie. It's not even remotely scary or exciting anymore. I understand the complaints about the erotic content at the time. After all, Dracula also has something erotic, but with current norms and values, few decency rascals will have a problem with this.
The Horror of Dracula entertains well over the eighty minutes that it lasts. We see people being seduced, wooden stakes being chased through hearts and blood flowing lustfully. Modern viewers will miss the momentum and find the whole thing too corny. I myself enjoyed the atmosphere and excellent acting from Christopher lee and Peter Cushing. There was also little wrong with the acting of the other characters. Awesome final by the way!

Very entertaining adaptation of Bram Stokers' classic novella. If you're used to Hammer's production values, this is familiar fare. With the caveat that this was indeed the first Dracula film at the House of Hammer. Beautiful settings (although I prefer the castles from the versions by FW Murnau and Tod Browning over what is shown here) annex opulent interiors, pompous orchestral music, erotic undertones, great special effects (for the time), decent acting. At the beginning of the movie I wasn't very impressed until Christopher Lee came on the scene; what a presence!
What else struck me. Contemporary films can contain 100 times more nudity and explicit sex, but the undertone of this film proves it to me: less is more.
As for the horror. I don't really find it exciting, my nerves are probably too dulled for that by what I've already had in the past with more contemporary stuff. But it is certainly worth watching because of Christopher Lee and the Hammer production signature with accompanying atmosphere.

I'm sure I've seen this one a long time ago. I still remember the final scene. But I'm not quite sure. It's a classic from the vampire genre. Perhaps Béla Lugosi as Dracula is more terrifying, yet most will associate Christopher Lee more with this night creature. Not exactly a creepy movie (when I was a kid I wouldn't say this though). Can anyone tell me if there are any movies from this period where the ladies strolling around at night in their nightgowns (which is invariably in every movie from that era) put on a translucent nigligé? Would make it all a bit more exciting
