Christopher Van der Veer has just completed the inauguration of his renovation work on New York's South Bronx. While walking at night with his wife and dog in a small park in Manhattan, under the watchful eye of a bodyguard, something or someone is watching them. The next morning their bodies are found, horribly mutilated. Inspector Dewey Wilson takes charge of the investigation, assisted by his deputy Rebecca, a psychologist specializing in terrorism. After all, according to Wilson's boss, Van der Veer was killed by terrorists...

Good film in which a detective has to solve a brutal triple murder. Certainly not a standard werewolf film that does not have to rely on gore, but more on atmosphere and tension. Well-constructed scenes and especially beautiful camera work and excellent location work. A bit on the long side.

A werewolf film that is not about lycanthropes. It is mainly a procedural cop drama for which Finney's already expired head is very suitable. The perpetrators are just a bit strange. With a Predator viewer. It looked a bit better there than it does here. Those who go for the horror will be somewhat disappointed. Furthermore, the film is not badly put together. For example, it still has that grimy atmosphere of the seventies. It was a mess in the Bronx back then. Too bad it sometimes becomes too preachy, because the Indians have something to say. But still, a scene like that of Finney vs. Olmos on the suspension bridge, that is something to behold.

Dark police thriller about a supernatural wolf pack that makes New York unsafe. The gore is a bit dated, but otherwise it has stood the test of time well. I haven't read it anywhere here or anywhere else, but there is no doubt that John McTiernan was inspired by Wolfen for that iconic predator infrared vision mode? A bit overkill of that effect here, but a nice innovation.
