Extremely violent and patriotic resistance film about an attack on the Japanese occupier and a prominent collaborator. There is no lack of action and between all the shootings (the ammunition was apparently on sale) there was also room for some humor, so that the film does not seem to take itself too seriously.

I think the filmmakers could have done more with the “twin” phenomenon. The revelation of who the traitor is should also have been kept under wraps longer. Looks more like a gangster movie than a war movie.

Amsal/Assassination is a very interesting and captivating film. Somewhat pseudo-historical, and for Korea part of recent history with the Japanese occupation - perhaps somewhat similar to how we here think about films about the German occupation. But still a little better developed than what we are used to here - much more detail in the story, you stumble from one intrigue to another, and one colorful person after another. And the entire production is very well worked out, impossible to get a pin in between.

Where years ago I only occasionally dared to see a Korean film - Akmareul Boatda, is a title that has stayed with me as an example of a somewhat heavy-hearted film - I have come across several in the last year that have left me very satisfying. This one again.

Japan did make more mistakes during their colonial drive in the first part of the 20th century in the then more agricultural Korea and China. Here again a beautiful composition of their urge to assert themselves in these parts. This is not a historical film, at most this history is the setting of an espionage thriller.

Actions and intrigue are therefore central, making it a good commercial cinema film. For me personally in this context just a little less interesting. Overall quite entertaining and a solid plot. Editing and cinematography also on a high level.
