Bin-jip plot

"Nothing is what it appears to be."

Tae-suk searches on his motorcycle for empty houses where he can stay for a while. He doesn't steal anything, but uses some from the fridge, repairs broken items and does the laundry if necessary. He records his visits by photographing himself in other people's interiors. This strange but calm life is interrupted when one day he sneaks into a luxurious house, where the young woman Sun-hwa hides in the dark. She is trapped in a miserable marriage with an abusive man...

Beautiful movie. Small, but very beautiful.

But don't they have washing machines in South Korea?

Bin-jip remains a wonderful film with the necessary symbolism. The story is already special about a man who breaks into houses to eat and sleep, but then does some chores or does the laundry in return. A kind of passive aggressive begging, but without directly bothering anyone. Sometimes it goes a bit further like the meeting of the woman who is suffering from domestic violence and the old man who died in loneliness.

A film about status and class difference, nicely symbolized by the different ways of golf training, from the rich man with his safety net in the garden to the poorer main characters tying a golf ball around a tree.. Kim Ki-duk chooses silent characters so that the images speak for themselves even more. The highlight for me is the scene in prison where he tries to make himself invisible to the jailer. Pure poetry. That leads to the scene after where it remains open whether he is still in prison and his presence with the rich couple is an illusion the woman can relate to, or whether he really escaped and found a way to be invisible to the rich man so that he can also live in a house without it being empty.
