Excellent Holmes mystery in which the two separate plot lines may seem a bit chaotic, but ultimately lead to a nice climax. The flute music is appropriately ominous ("There's death in every note of it!"), Watson's dialogue lying on the street with the astonished passerby is enjoyably absurdist, and George Zucco is a perfect Moriarty (even though the child actor who plays Billy has a higher " billing"). According to the commentary track, this is Basil Rathbone himself as the singer of I do like to be beside the seaside!

Fine Holmes which I mistakenly thought was the first with Rathbone: Baskervilles has that honor. However, this Adventures satisfied me at least as well, especially thanks to the infectious interplay of Rathbone and Watson; The more of these films I see, the more I notice it. Zucco as Moriarty is also doing well. Furthermore, the film looks better than some of the sequels, which were probably put together too quickly. Great entertainment!

This good Holmes film (the second in a whole series) is a true classic and one of the many Sherlocks with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. This has a nice plot in which Professor Moriarty tries to distract the detective from a crime plan he wants to carry out. Fun to follow... However, there is little tension building. Almost everything is given away by Moriarty in the beginning. This was not yet an issue in the 1930s.
