A film that stays exciting until the very end. The movie has a rather slow pace but that didn't bother me in any way. In the beginning I immediately thought I knew who the perpetrator was, Dave I never really found suspicious. I would only have thought it strange if he had done something to the daughter. However, the film tries to make him suspicious and succeeds in doing so at times, so that you start to have doubts.

Moreover, this is also a strong film that outlines the evolution of the three childhood friends and their relationship. Fate brings them back together, as it were. Each has chosen their own path in life, although you could already guess what they were going to be like later on. I thought Sean Penn played very well again and Tim Robbins also came across very believable. I found Kevin Bacon a bit more ordinary with his typical role as a detective. Drama-wise, it's not bad, although I think the drama might come a little too early and something more could have been done around Katie's persona. At first I also thought it was going to be a predictable ending, but after an hour and a half I thought that this was going to have a sublime plot. The plot was surprisingly on the other hand maybe a little easy.

Hard, heavy film about trauma, suffering, guilt and penance and how the three main characters each deal with this in a different way. The titular Mystic River seems to play no role for a long time, but turns out to be central after all. It's the river where Jimmy tries to wash away his sins, in the past and at the end of the movie. The story really dragged me along and was well put together, but I have to say that there were some far-fetched elements here and there, which should ensure that the picture is right. Those little kids their motive to kill Jimmy's daughter isn't even a motive. Just by accident, pure coincidence, well, ok. But when I started to think about it after the film, I realized that you shouldn't approach the film so realistically. It is all rather symbolic and moral. Jimmy used to kill the boy's father, and years later, due to some kind of cosmic karma for his sins, that boy accidentally kills Jimmy's daughter. Karma for his sins and lack of remorse? That way Jimmy won't have a happy life after the movie, because he again shows no remorse for wrongly killing his former friend.[/spoiler ] At least, that's how I see it anyway, otherwise it's just a very strange and nihilistic ending.

Otherwise a very strong actor film. Sean Penn and Tim Robbins were immensely strong as the tormented criminal and the traumatized victim, respectively. Bacon's detective role was a bit more standard, but he certainly does a good job, as does Marcia Gay Harden.
Eastwood's directing is perfect. Beautiful panoramic overview shots, a very fixed camera, beautiful decoration and atmosphere. Great, the man can certainly direct as well as act.

This is a really great movie!

The cast is huge, Kevin Bacon (always good), Tim Robbins, Laurence Fishburn, but most importantly Sean Penn...!
Penn is very persuasive and can convey emotions like no other. His acting performances are again, very impressive.

The film starts in the past and even though this is just the intro, this is the most important part of the film.
This piece creates doubt and a constant tension about what happened. Tim Robbins really plays his part very well, which gives food for thought during the film.

The rest is like a crime thriller, but certainly not standard. There is a constantly oppressive atmosphere because of the drama from the start and the former friendship of the men, who now face each other. The crime is also not solved by more and more clues, but more by a combination of circumstances, which eventually culminates in an unexpected and dark drama.

This drama Jimmy killed his former buddy while afterwards it turns out that this was true and innocent, Dave couldn't deal with his past anymore and finally resigned himself to the redemption by Jimmy and Sean can't let go of the events of the past and despite knowing what happened, let everything rest. makes sure that this film will stick around for a very long time and that it is really worth re-watching it once in a while!

Lots of suspense and very good acting, top movie!
