Funny, sometimes touching film about a lonely man (David Earl) who manages to build a robot out of everyday rubbish to keep him company. The hypothermic humor is contagious and the simple but sincere story is effective, although sometimes a bit too predictable. The voice of robot Charles (Chris Hayward) is amazing.

Leading actor reminded me of the combination of 'Mr Bean' and 'De Vieze Man' by van Kooten and de Bie. Initially seems like a documentary like 'Man bijt hond' where the protagonist explains to the cameraman what his life looks like and there is even mutual communication. What he shows is the inventions he makes. These are useless things like a dish brush on a drill and a belt you can put eggs in. Until suddenly he builds a robot that, although clearly looking like a man with a box over his head, is very smart. At first the robot behaves like a child, but soon goes into puberty and wants to go out into the wide world. Thought it was a bit over the top. Protagonist is too 'scared', robot is a bit too 'smart', neighbors are too 'aggressive'. But in the end it looks pleasant and the gray surroundings are nicely chosen.

Brian [David Earl] is an eccentric recluse who spends his time in a rural community piecing together senseless contraptions. To dispel the loneliness, he assembles a robot [Chris Hayward] whom he names Charles and becomes his best friend. Filmed as a faux-documentary à la Christopher Guest with a screenplay that mainly consists of a few loose, occasionally entertaining ideas. There is hardly any story or character development. Extension of a short film from 2017 that was also little more than a collection of loose ideas of varying quality around a not bad basic idea.
