revised. Due to the large series of lifeless and especially far-fetched sequels, you would almost forget that this first film in the franchise is quite creepy and effective. Even almost thirty years later, the starting point remains very strong. Visually it is on the scanty side and the script has a number of mediocre scenes halfway through, but Chucky is and remains an ingenious creation. Fortunately, we don't see him too much and the one-liners remain limited. Less is more, that is also apparent here.

Child's play is another nostalgic movie from my childhood. It was also a horror that terrified me as a child. The second one in particular gave me chills. Never seen anything as scary as that horrible murderous doll Chucky back then, though Nightmare on Elm Street came close. Actually pedagogically irresponsible as a 7-year-old or something...

The first movie is actually the best. Less spectacular in terms of action than the also excellent second part, but the first film is really great in terms of atmosphere. The best part of the film is the first 45 minutes where the mystery and the close bond between Andy and Chucky is great. Chucky's footsteps in the flower, Andy's care for his doll, the disbelief and the batteries, ... I still find the most creepy moments when the doll takes no action, but just sits still.

Still a fun horror movie. I dare to watch a lot together with my six-year-old daughter (not that that happens much), but I wisely move this one back for a few years.

Wonderful horror film, the atmosphere of the film and also the cast, especially Brad Dourif as Chucky, is just very well done. This now cult film is a must-see, I always see it around Halloween or during and I just say watch this classic.
