Watched it today, I thought it was a bit of a disappointment.

Lots of drama and family troubles, the disaster itself is not even that spectacular.

It is interesting to see how the rescuers pick up and act on this.

'Daylight' is really much better and more exciting, there is little tension in this Tunnel, you can see from afar who will survive, I was also a bit disappointed by the ending.

Actually just an average film, I had expected more from this, not that it is bad, but it lacked a bit more spectacle.

Boring.

There have been a lot of Scandinavian disaster films released lately of varying quality. It is of course different from simple, American popcorn entertainment. Tunneling also wants to go a little deeper and appear more human than larger films, but is actually a lot more boring.

The acting is nevertheless excellent, but director Øie's content is very predictable. The thing about the father who has to save his daughter has become so tired and predictable that films like Tunneling are hardly interesting anymore. Especially if you let it all take a little longer and progress more slowly than necessary. It is sometimes seriously difficult to continue watching the film with fascination.

The landscapes are beautiful and the beginning of the disaster goes quite well, but in the end it turns out to just be about smoke in a tunnel. Then Øie can't really get anything oppressive or exciting out of it, which makes the 105 minutes quickly feel like a tough one. The uninteresting camera work cannot give the film its own identity. It is all depicted safely, without the scenarios being presented in an interesting way. The second half in particular feels quite long.

It's not a bad movie, but I'm certainly not sad that I had to miss this movie in theaters due to the pandemic. It is a slow film with a nice concept and convincing acting, but unfortunately Norway completely fails to give the concept of the disaster film a deeper layer. To achieve that, you will have to come up with more original characters and avoid the flashy clichés a little better. Shame.
