Brüder plot
In 1896 Hamburg, work on the docks is hard and unrest begins to grow among the workers. Management is deaf to the demand for higher wages. The dockers hold meetings and the situation reaches a boiling point. Now that the union agrees to lend support, they call a strike. One of the movement's organizers has been hit particularly hard. He lives in an attic room in the Gängeviertel, a neighborhood of alleys, with his bedridden wife, elderly mother and young daughter.
