Has nothing to do with the original but was quite entertaining at times. Too bad there is no real horror to be found anywhere and everything is kept within the lines. For a horror film to score high points it has to be a bit daring, especially if Brian Yuzna has something to do with it. What was nice were references to the work of Stuart Gordon and Yuzna (producer) himself, as well as a remarkable role by Mickey Rooney. I read somewhere that he was strongly against the original and protested strongly against it. Now it turns out that he himself is simply playing in this fifth part. Lack of money?

The soundtrack of the film was still good, only the acting was often very disappointing. I especially found the little boy quite annoying.

Overall, just an entertaining little snack.

2.5*

Neither creepy nor gory.

Despite the presence of Mickey Rooney, they manage to leave behind a substandard product. Again under Yuzna's auspices, but without his 'body horror'. The film never manages to become creepy or gory, something that a good horror film should not lack. The mediocre series also came to an end with this fifth part.

Average.

Sequel to the Christmas series with an absurd premise that is more or less disconnected from the other parts. Since it all started as a slasher where someone dressed as Santa Claus beat people off the street, it is special to see that it has now become an imaginative event where toys come to life. Unfortunately, the best scenes are saved for the last half hour and the rest mainly concentrates on build-up and development. The characters are just not very interesting and the atmosphere is hard to find, only when director Martin Kitrosser starts to show off with the practical horror does the whole thing become entertaining.
