State of Play plot

Ambitious Labor politician Stephen Collins chairs the Energy Select Committee and has a glittering political career ahead of him. However, the fatal fall of his assistant Sonia Baker from the platform in the London Underground brings him into great difficulty. Soon his relationship with her is widely reported in the tabloid press. Journalist Cal McCaffrey, an old friend of Stephen's and his former campaign manager, investigates for The Herald newspaper. Sonia's death does not appear to have been an accident. As the investigation progresses, it becomes clear that the government is involved at the highest level.
