Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell plot

In an alternative nineteenth century England, where magic was once widely used but now only discussed in theory, Mr Norrell proves that magic can still be performed. He leaves for London with his servant Childermass to make magic respectable again and to use it in the war against Napoleon. Meanwhile, Jonathan Strange has learned from a street magician that his destiny is to become a great wizard and takes his first steps into the world of magic. He eventually apprentices to Norrell, after which the two set out to keep England safe and bring magic back to the British Empire.

Niet echt magische serie over magie. Het gaat vooral over de relatie tussen Norrell en Strange en hun verschillende opvattingen over magie. Terwijl er veel over wordt gepraat gebeurt er weinig. De serie ziet er ondanks het beperkte budget prima uit (iig qua setting) en de cast is goed. Als 3 delige serie had dit beter gewerkt.

Not exactly magic series about magic. It mainly deals with the relationship between Norrell and Strange and their differing views on magic. While much is being said about it, little is happening. Despite the limited budget, the series looks fine (in terms of setting) and the cast is good. This would have worked better as a 3 part series.

Leuke serie, lekker maf en spannend. Prima vermaak met kola en chips.
