Y Gwyll plot

Aberystwyth, a place of beauty. A thriving university town, situated on the west coast of Wales, between the Irish and the hilly hinterland, filled with small, close-knit villages and the occasional farm. Worlds and traditions that are doomed to collide as soon as they come into contact. Communities that live by their own rules, with their own secrets as a result. Secrets that hide behind a wall of innocence. This is the world that Inspector Tom Mathias enters. Leaving a turbulent life in bustling London behind, he tries to make a fresh start in Aberystwyth. The natural and civilized environment may give the illusion that there are no scandals, but nothing could be further from the truth...

Now back to the last season. Love how storyline(s) run through the whole thing. Furthermore, each episode is of course a murder (in Wales there is always something to do), but they are nevertheless skillfully, calmly and credibly worked out. The beautiful landscapes, the excellent actors, the general malaise that seems to permeate everything, it all contributes to an idiosyncratic and very fine series.

I already saw a few actors and actresses pass by who later were allowed to do their thing to a greater extent in Hidden - that series is (partly at least) by the same makers and also plays in Wales and I think it is just a bit stronger than this one ( season 1 especially), because a lot more happens while only 1 (main) case is being dealt with.

4.0*.
