The Affair plot

The Affair explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship. Noah is a school teacher and writer in New York City who is happily married but turns away from dependence on his wealthy father-in-law. Alison is a young waitress trying to pick up her life and marriage after a tragedy. Set in Montauk on the fringes of Long Island, the provocative drama unfolds from both the male and female perspectives, using the selective memories of both to tell the story. Detective Jeffries interrogates the two about what happened that summer to solve his murder case.

Atmospheric, tasteful, exciting, erotic, tragic, drama with a touch of humor.

In short, I run out of superlatives to describe the first season of The Affair. The series is watched like reading a novel. Shifts in perspective serve as chapters, and visually, in every episode, you imagine yourself in a beautiful, peaceful world with horse ranches, babbling brooks, and pretty cottages. Visually, you occasionally think this is Virgin River, but in terms of content, The Affair has much more to offer.

Each character is layered and comes to life as a result. Lead actress Ruth Wilson shines on screen and is believable in every respect. Tragic, sexy, comedic, and then tragic again—it is all convincing. Co-star Dominic West is hardly inferior, and it is admirable how authentic their interplay comes across on screen.

The supporting roles of Joshua Jackson and Maura Tierney are also fantastic and contribute to the strength of the series. In fact, every supporting role is meticulously crafted, and it is wonderful to see a series again that takes the time to unfold the story and where the characters remain relatable and engaging.

A very captivating series that my wife and I enjoy every evening. We are currently busy with season 2, which, like the other seasons, can be streamed on Sky Showtime.

An outstanding and highly successful first season that no one should miss and leaves you wanting more.
