After seeing the finale, I still stand by my previous opinion. The series ends nicely on its own, with finally a hint of hope and optimism instead of an endless series of tragedies, but I still maintain that the series culminates in the earlier seasons. The later seasons often felt to me like an inflated cliché of the earlier seasons and therefore added little in my opinion.

I also have mixed feelings about the much-vaunted last scene. On the one hand, the series ends nicely in this way in line with the theme of the series. But on the other hand, I felt like I was watching a kitschy music video accompanied by a cheesy pop song.

But maybe I just have a heart of stone.

The last three episodes of this fifth season provide some more speed and variety. But I am left with the feeling that there should have been two seasons less.

From season three, the creativity of the makers declines, and SFU often comes too close to a TV soap - in Belgium it's Thuis en Familie, don't know what comes on the screen in NL in that style?

The family business and everything around it are put on the back burner; relationships and relationship issues predominate every episode. There are liters of tears flowing in SFU, especially in this last season. Not because someone dies or is buried, but because of quarrels and divorces. And that while the original set-up around deaths and burials is the strength of this series.

A great group of actors and actresses: especially they ensure that SFU does not bleed to death...

Finally, I bought the DVD box without ever seeing a trailer or anything. I was very surprised when I noticed that this was an American product. For some reason my gut feeling always made me think this was British. And in hindsight, I'm still sad that this isn't the case...
