Sisi plot

The 19th century. When Elisabeth of Austria, also known as Sisi, gets to know Emperor Franz Joseph, it is the beginning of a turbulent love story. The wayward Sisi and the young Franz Joseph are irresistibly attracted to each other, but their lives are not a bed of roses. They have to deal with personal desires and political pressure. In this way Sisi defies rigid courtly customs and knows how to use the power of her outward appearance for herself and her ideals.

In the second season, the historical section focuses primarily on the conflict between Franz Joseph I and Otto von Bismarck. Who will lead the German-speaking countries: Austria or Prussia? Who will be allied with France and Hungary? Sisi's diplomatic and multilingual skills will likely play a role in this.

Historical liberties have been taken. Sisi never had cholera. Franz Joseph did not have an illegitimate daughter named Marie.

Sisi's horse symbolizes her desire for freedom. The macaw resembles Sisi herself, as she too is locked in a gilded cage.
