Rebus plot
Forty-year-old police detective John Rebus finds himself at a psychological crossroads after an altercation with a notorious Edinburgh criminal. At odds with a career increasingly dominated by corporate technocrats, embroiled in a toxic affair he knows he must end, and nearly ousted from his daughter’s life by his ex-wife’s wealthy new husband, Rebus begins to wonder if he has a role to play as a family man or a police officer. In a world of divisive politics and national discord, does the law even make sense, or is everyone falling back on the old rules? And if so, why shouldn’t Rebus?
