The Torkelsons plot
After being abandoned by her husband, Millicent Torkelson is left to care for her family of five wayward children on her own. They live in Pyramid Corners, Oklahoma. In order to improve financially, Millicent decides to take in a boarder named Wesley Hodges. The eldest daughter, 14-year-old Dorothy Jane, initially does not like this. Over time, the family manages to apply ingenious ideas to make ends meet and make the best of bad times.
