Lady Dynamite season 1

Well, it's not for everyone, that's the punchline Maria weaves through the series as well. Absurdism, surrealism, sexist puns and pitch-black humor about her mental state (OCD, bipolar 2) alternate at a rapid pace. Yes it's over the top, yes it's on-the-nose satire at times, but it's also touching with a lot of heart.

Nice that Pam Brady is mentioned as creator here, but then you're doing Mitchell Hurwitz (Arrested Development) short, because his strange timing and way of structuring moments in this series is undeniably his hand.

In addition, there are indeed enough familiar faces that show up for a while. I don't know what/who knows "the Dutch TV viewer", but if you are a little invested in American comedy you know them all. Usually they are supporting roles, although it must be said that Ana Gasteyer does a very good job.

Lady Dynamite season 1

First impression after 1 episode; annoying nonsense. Don't get me wrong, I can really appreciate nonsense and absurdism as long as it's entertaining. Take, for example, a Sarah Silverman Program or Inside Amy Schumer. Also very American and over the top. Also a bit towards the faint sometimes but then again so touching. I really miss that here. And these shows have an endearing woman as the lead. This nasty little lady is apparently a comedian, apparently she even does stand up... I kept wondering how the hell? Also know quite a few comedians. But never heard anything about this lady before. Surely the intention of a pilot is to entice viewers to continue watching...? A lot of celebs show up for this (all of whom I recognize but for the average Dutch viewer the familiar faces are not all equally familiar I'm afraid) but that couldn't really save the day either. Unfortunately I was expecting something like Master of None. Maybe I'll try some more episodes soon. I often have it with series that I have to get into it. I just have a strong suspicion that this probably won't work for me. I also think that the average Dutch viewer will not find this so amusing and will soon drop out.
