De komst van kleur in het vijfde seizoen is optimaal benut. In de titelsequentie zijn de primaire kleuren opvallend aanwezig. De felle tinten van Emma’s jumpsuits werden zichtbaar, net als haar kastanjebruine haar en blauwe Lotus Elan. De Bentley van John Steed is meestal groen. Een tweede vernieuwing was de dubbele tagline volgens het patroon “Steed doet dit, Emma doet dat” - altijd met een woordspeling. Daarna komt telkens het zinnetje “Mrs Peel, we’re needed” op een originele manier in beeld. Elke aflevering moeten ze een mysterie ontsluieren. Er zit dikwijls science fiction in: tijdreizen, een onzichtbare man. Sommige ideeën zijn ontleend aan H. G. Wells of Agatha Christie. De schurk kan een krankzinnige professor zijn, of een excentriekeling met bizarre trekjes, bijvoorbeeld melk slurpen als een kat. Soms wordt het heel bizar. Steed en Peel lossen al deze zaken met z’n tweeën op zonder hun koelbloedigheid of elegantie te verliezen. Hij maakt gebruik van gadgets in z’n bolhoed of z’n paraplu; zij kent oosterse gevechtstechnieken. Tijdens een moordscène komt soms alleen het doodsbange slachtoffer in beeld. Luchtige intermezzo’s krijgen een visueel trekje door Peel en Steed te laten schilderen of behangen. Ze werken wellicht voor een branche van MI5, al wordt dat nooit expliciet gezegd. De gunstige afloop beklinken ze met een glas champagne. Veel toekomstige sterren hebben een gastrol: Donald Sutherland, Ronnie Barker, Ron Moody, Brian Blessed, Charlotte Rampling. Ook horrorsterren Christopher Lee en Peter Cushing maken hun opwachting. De muziek van Laurie Johnson klinkt als de reeks: spannend en elegant tegelijk. Favoriete afleveringen: 2, 6, 7, 14, 24.

Each episode they have to uncover a mystery. There is often science fiction in it: time travel, an invisible man. Some ideas are taken from HG Wells or Agatha Christie. The villain can be an insane professor, or an eccentric with bizarre traits, such as slurping milk like a cat. Sometimes it gets really bizarre.

Steed and Peel solve all these issues together without losing their coolness or elegance. He uses gadgets in his bowler hat or umbrella; she knows oriental fighting techniques. During a murder scene, sometimes only the terrified victim appears. Light intermezzos are given a visual touch by having Peel en Steed painted or wallpapered. They may work for an industry of MI5, though it's never explicitly stated. They end the favorable outcome with a glass of champagne.

Many future stars have guest stars: Donald Sutherland, Ronnie Barker, Ron Moody, Brian Blessed, Charlotte Rampling. Horror stars Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing also make their appearance. Laurie Johnson's music sounds like the series: exciting and elegant at the same time.
