Nice season. It's mostly about the lawyersbrothertwist (which I don't always find credible, but who am I), and I believe Jimmy and Mike might 1 or 2 times together been in the picture? Mike is a very entertaining bad-good guy, so I don't have any problems with it. Indeed it is interesting how Howard also gets his sympathetic side... And the ending keeps the tension in it.

The somewhat sudden end of the first season turns out to be the start of a sequel in which the moral decline of Jimmy McGill is neatly explained. And to my positive surprise, it is not (yet) 'issue of the week' and the history of degeneration remains the main focus point. Still an important part of the fraternal strife between Chuck and Jimmy, this is the season where Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehoorn) stands her ground against the fragile egos in the legal profession. Kind of like Skyler White (Anna Gunn) was the antagonist as the last bit of moral conscience of her meth-dealing husband. I would say that Kim Wexler is a stronger and more feminist character, because she acts (or tries to act) on an equal footing and wants to develop herself in it. It's also no problem for me that the series is a slow burner and the psychological power machinations are more important than outspoken or cartoonish violence. Although I'm honestly starting to wonder if the series doesn't also suffer from the similarities with its illustrious predecessor. With Mike's storylines, the cartel violence and BB cameos feel more like misguided fan service than contributing much to the central conflict.

Still less than the first season. Here there is more emphasis on the legal profession and the intrigue at HHM and less on the tricks of Slippin' Jimmy that made last season so much fun for me. On the one hand it is interesting to see how the relations between the McGill brothers develop, but on the other hand it is not very smooth.

Most interesting and emblematic of their relationship is the flashback at the beginning of the last episode on the deathbed of Mother McGill, who calls out for the absent Jimmy and seems to pay no attention to the present Chuck. I don't find Chuck very sympathetic towards Jimmy in this series, despite all his success while Jimmy is just messing around it is clear that he has a big grudge towards Jimmy and scenes like this make it clear where the origins lie: Jimmy was clearly their favorite parents despite Chuck being the one who does everything by the rules. And that also makes Chuck's attitude a bit more understandable.

Anyway, nevertheless it all feels a bit more boring than the previous season. The highlight for me was the scene where Jimmy makes it impossible to get fired. Nicely edited and with nice finds.

Because of the lower level of entertainment and because it seems to be going a bit slower, one star less than last season. 2.5*.
