Wonderful series. I can remember that season two spent too much time on the lawyer thing for my taste, but it was still interesting. This third season is more whirlwind. Saul is a fascinating character, development continues and there is a great atmosphere, nice music.

In certain shots I did have the feeling of 'already seen at Breaking Bad' and the relationship with Kim was not convincing (but the one with his brother); but okay. On to season 4!

After a nice first season, the second season was a bit disappointing. Although this third season has a different tone than the first season, this is more up to scratch, especially as the atmosphere is more and more close to that of Breaking Bad. Logically, eventually we have to `get rid of' characters not in Breaking Bad, as more and more characters from that series make their entrance.

For this season, that means the exit of brother Chuck, and the entrance of Gus Fring. The first brings Chuck's storyline to a logical ending. But the latter in particular is mood-enhancing because Gus is one of the most charismatic and at the same time terrifying characters I've seen. Interesting to see Mike get attached to him, with the shoe scenes being particularly innovative. A much minor character from Breaking Bad making his entrance this season is Huell Babineaux, a sidekick I've always had a soft spot for, as stupid as he is.

Also strong is the larger role for Nacho, who, like Jesse before in Breaking Bad, seems to increasingly play the heart of the series, the person who gets entangled in the whole and who struggles with the dark sides of the drug trade. It leads to a storyline that satisfactorily explains how Hector Salamanca ends up in the wheelchair.

In short, it all becomes more serious, more dangerous, and that contributes considerably to the experience. 3.5*.

Which story is being told exactly? I find it all hanging together like loose sand. There is as little direction in the story as in the life of Jimmy McGill. And that nagging all the time with that Sandpiper case and those elderly people. A cringe-inducing and sleep-inducing series. And what do those drug dealers have to do with Jimmy McGill? It seems as if you are watching two series at the same time. An embarrassment, unbelievable that this is from the same writer as the much better breaking bad.
