The Silence plot

Eighteen-year-old Amelia became deaf at the age of two. A few months ago she received an implant which has had a major impact on her life. She has to get used to being able to perceive sound and speech and becomes depressed and frustrated by it. Her parents want her to look for an independent life. To break free from her overprotective parents, she goes to stay with her Aunt Maggie and Uncle Jim, who is a detective. One evening she witnesses the murder of a young woman. This turns out to be a colleague of her uncle. Her uncle is assigned to this case as a detective and does not know that his niece has seen the perpetrator.
