Matt Damon has confirmed that All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger is developing a new Jason Bourne movie.
Five Bourne movies have been produced so far - The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Legacy and Jason Bourne.
Damon played the title character in four of those movies, with Jeremy Renner stepping in as the lead, Aaron Cross, for Legacy.
The franchise is based on the series of novels by Robert Ludlum that concern a spy with amnesia who is forced to reclaim his memories and take revenge on the government that betrayed him.
A Bourne movie has not been released since 2016 and Universal are keen to kickstart things again either with a sequel or a reboot. Though Berger has been attached to direct, according to Deadline, there is no news about Damon's return or even a script yet.
"No details have been given to me. No, no, no," Damon told Stephen Colbert.
"There’s a great director, named Edward Berger, who directed All Quiet on the Western Front. I don’t know if you saw it, it came out recently. Fantastic. A German director, he’s wonderful. And he said he had an idea. I would love to work with him! So he’s working on it, so I’m looking, I’m as anxious as you are to see if this thing – I hope it’s great, and that we can do it.
"At a certain point, someone is going to need to take it over. I’m not getting any younger."
Damon cast doubt on a return back in 2017.
“It would have to be a pretty incredible story to get us all back on the horse,” Damon told The Sun.
“This last one didn’t do as well as the one we did 10 years ago, so maybe people are done with the character. Look we all love working together and those movies are a lot of fun to make so we sure would be happy to do it. If we can figure out a good story.”
