Chris Evans has responded to speculation that Marvel are looking to bring back Captain America and the original Avengers in the MCU.
Since Avengers: Endgame, which acted as the final movie of that particular Avengers saga, the box office has declined and the reviews haven't been as kind to Marvel features.
Movies like The Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings did not meet financial expectations and even features with existing, loved heroes like Thor: Love and Thunder and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania went down like a lead balloon in some quarters.
Marvel has been struggling to recapture the magic they found with the original Avengers team of Iron Man, Black Widow, Captain America, Thor, Hulk and Hawkeye.
And, according to Variety, one plan the studio had was to revive Iron Man and Black Widow in the MCU.
Evans says no one has contacted him about a return.
"You know, I always see those reports too, and it's news to me. Every couple of months, someone says that they're getting Downey, Hemsworth, and Johansson, and everyone's coming back!" he previously said in a conversation with The View.
"No one's spoken to me about it. And look, I would never say never, but I'm very protective. It's a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right."
Evans: Never say never to Captain America return
At the conclusion of Endgame, Steve Rogers goes back in time to be with his love Peggy Carter and hands over his Cap shield to Sam Wilson.
Anthony Mackie's Wilson is the new Captain America in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World.
Evans does not want to rule out a return as Steve Rogers, however.
“I’ll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience,” Evans told GQ.
“But I’m also very precious with it. It’s something that I am very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it even happened. And I wouldn’t want the black eye if it felt like a cash grab or if it didn’t live up to expectations or if it just felt like it wasn’t connected to that original thing. So, no time soon.”
