A tough, woman-devouring gambler known as Tennessee (John Payne) has a difficult relationship with Elizabeth Farnham (Rhonda Fleming) nicknamed "Duchess," the owner of the local nightclub. He is spared a murder by Cowpoke (Ronald Reagan), who has come to town to meet his new fiancée Goldie Slater (Coleen Gray). But when Goldie arrives, it seems like something is going on between her and Tennessee.
