Jim Grimsby's Boy plot

Jim Grimsby is an old gray man who lives in the mountains. He tries to make the best of the disappointing situation he has found himself in. His wife bore him a daughter instead of the son he had hoped for. He does not give up and decides to name his daughter Bill and raise her like a son. This goes well for a long time, but when Mother Nature begins to exert her influence on Bill and she starts to show more and more feminine traits, father and daughter grow further apart. Her relationship with the local sheriff, however, continues to improve.
