California plot
In 1846, Captain Archibald Gillespie is sent to Southern California during the Mexican-American War to join Brigadier General Stephen W. Kearny. He falls in love with Carlotta del Rey, the daughter of a wealthy Mexican landowner. The forces reach their destination led by pioneer Kit Carson. The intention of their expedition is to annex the area to the United States. Only after the war is over, Captain Gillespie is free to marry Carlotta.
