The Raven plot

"The only one who can stop a serial killer is the man who inspired him."

Baltimore, 1848. A mother and daughter are brutally killed and Detective Emmett Fields (Evans) is assigned to the case. During his investigation, he stumbles upon a shocking discovery: the crime closely resembles a fictional crime story written by the eccentric writer and poet Edgar Allan Poe (Cusack). While Poe is being interrogated by Detective Fields, another grim murder takes place at the same time, again matching one of Poe's stories. Realizing that a serial killer is at work, they decide to join forces to catch this killer before more innocent victims fall.

Nice dark film with a nice eye for cinematography and atmosphere creation. However, the story is a bit thin and still reminiscent of many other films; a serial killer who chooses a direct object and plays a game with it. In one way or another it never gets boring and you stay well in the film, apparently it remains an interesting subject.

Then take some unbelievable things into the bargain, because a writer who suddenly plays a detective does not really go in, but forward, which love already does. Some scenes may be a bit too graphic/bloody, on the other hand it fits the setting. And the end credits made no sense, just like watching a Bond movie.

All in all a nice snack.

Good film in which Edgar Allen Poe gets involved in a murder investigation when his stories become reality. A great concept with a fictional story about the famous writer. The plot is entertaining and exciting here and there. Furthermore, John Cusack is well cast and the film has a nice gothic atmosphere.

A nice fact, nicely worked out without the film being as good as I hoped (or as oppressive as Poe's own stories). The biggest flaw I think is that John Cusack behaves more like a 21st-century Oscar Wilde than a 19th-century Edgar Allan Poe in the beginning, but fortunately, thanks to the gloomy circumstances, he soon takes on a more moderate appearance and does not become condemned to permanently spouting offensive one-liners, though I'm still aware that I'm not looking at Poe, but at Cusack. In addition, the villain doesn't have much to do so that the final reveal and his climactic scene are somewhat underwhelming, but the atmospheric images and the nice-looking setting (Belgrade and Budapest transformed into the Baltimore of 1849) make a lot of sense. good and fortunately the historical character that the film revolves around remains better in character than, for example, Abraham Lincoln: vampire hunter. All in all, however, a film that is not really worthy of its main character.
