Personally I like this one better, because 'however', than that other famous Grisham film adaptation The Firm. A big law firm where collusion with the underworld has been kept under wraps for a long time... Yeah, right. Although somewhat theoretical, you can well imagine in the story of The Pelican Brief that a case eventually ends up at the Supreme Court. Well-favoured chief justices are a nice bonus. As a former lawyer, Grisham doesn't think much of law firms that he sees more as the proverbial advocates of diabolical practices. Nice build-up of tension because several times the bad guys are close on the heels of Julia Roberts and Denzel. Nice roles also from other players, who also really get something to do, including Robert Culp as a Reagan-like POTUS. Anthony Heald as Sr. Partner Velmano is one hell of a bastard.

Better than expected after other Grisham film adaptations this year and last year in the form of The Client and The Firm.

However, the film does not start very smoothly. In a messy first half hour many actions and characters pass by, the question is where it leads. I also find the contents of Miss Shaw's alleged file questionable. Where does she get all this wisdom from? And if she, a 2nd year student, can think of this what does that say about the whole scam or about all those people who are apparently asleep...?

However, the fun should not be crowded. Together with a fine cast and a good tone and atmosphere, The Pelican Brief feels more captivating and better as a whole than the aforementioned films. A fine treasure hunt/ 'conspiracy' is presented and unraveled by a fine duo in the form of Washington and Roberts.

Is there nothing to notice or not? Sure, even sat. For example, Roberts is found very easily the first time, Khamel is the worst hitman ever when he wants to eliminate her among all that audience, the soundtrack of Horner is sometimes almost hysterical and the film simply takes too long, so that the film still has to be played several times. quite insane.

It's not all that great, but it's very solid and interesting enough for once.
