The Coldest Game plot
"Times change. The stakes remain the same"
October 1962, at the height of the Cuban crisis. CIA agents force Joshua Mansky, a math genius and former chess prodigy, out of retirement because he is the only one who can replace the seriously ill American player in a chess tournament against Soviet champion Gavrylow in Warsaw. The Russians use every trick in the book to distract Mansky after he wins the first match, despite being completely drunk. The tournament turns out to be a cover for gathering information from an informant, a Soviet officer codenamed Gift. Only he can confirm whether the Russians actually have nuclear warheads stationed in Cuba.
