Strange movie.

What's especially crazy is that the structure is completely random. Nowhere do you have the feeling that there is really something strange going on in the house. At most, Watts isn't sleeping well. The reveal feels quite sudden and the fact that the little boy is in the house the entire time is also hopelessly written. The finale is also terribly bad. If the boy was still a ghost or something. But he is just flesh and blood. Every time he is knocked down, the lady runs away. At the end it gets very colorful when she also leaves the hammer behind, which the boy then takes. You have to be very willing because it can still be exciting.

Luckily it flopped. You can tell by everything that there is no talent to be found here.

1.5 stars.

Shut In is so full of clichés that it has become a parody of the genre. Instead of a thriller, it is mainly a movie that makes you laugh.

What business does Naomi Watts have in this silly, clichéd B-thriller? She plays Mary Portman, a child psychologist whose husband was killed in a car accident - as evidenced by the prologue - caused by son Stephen [Charlie Heaton], who himself became paralyzed and is completely dependent on the care of his tormented mother. One evening, Tom [Jacob Tremblay], one of her young patients, shows up at her door, but moments later he disappears without a trace. The search for Tom comes to nothing due to a snowstorm, but Mary starts to see strange things. Has Tom come back? And what is he going to do? Or are they delusions that stem from her guilt? We've all seen it before in films that are usually not much better. Oliver Platt has a thankless role as a colleague who advises Mary via Skype and the finale is so over-the-top that it cannot be taken seriously at all.
