Physical Evidence plot

"If he's innocent, the truth could save him. If he's guilty, the lies could kill her."

Police officer Joe (Burt Reynolds) has been removed from office and is defended by an ambitious lawyer (Theresa Russell). During the process it appears that completely different (Mafia) forces are involved and that Joe acts as a suspect for a murder that he did not commit. As an additional complication, the suspect and the lawyer develop a relationship. Fate has another surprise in store.
