Found in the German forests as a four-year-old, Günter grows up in a foster family. In a commentary about this latest Van Warmerdam I read the following:
'Don't ask questions, sink into your chair and let the abstract everydayness of Nr. 10 waltz all over you'
That's right, and that's what I did. For me, Van Warmerdam stands for absurd cinema, perhaps comparable to the work of Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth (2009), The Lobster (2015) where realism was also hard to find. I like it, but I have to vouch for it be the mood. These kinds of movies demand a lot of patience from the viewer. Most beautiful and hilarious scene: The three clerics floating through the space with a large christ cross behind them.

Typical Warmerdam weather. Abstract, distant, dry, blunt, subcutaneous, subtle, absurd. He delivered his tenth film here.
A typical start again; the deep frustrated tones in the dialogues. In this case, Pierre Bokma as Marius, who is exhausted by his seriously ill wife and also runs into problems at his drama school. Especially with his opponent Günther and director Karl. To thwart Günther, he tells Karl about the rumors that he is having an affair with his wife. The way Karl then takes revenge on stage is truly phenomenal. And typical Warmerdam. But Günther is not just anyone. And that's where the story turns.
And the longer we delve into Günther, the more bizarre the situations become. And no... I didn't expect Van Warmerdam to have a story about aliens. The man is always surprising.
It is just a pity that Van Warmerdam himself no longer has a role in this, unlike his previous films.
