Elf plot

"This holiday, discover your inner elf."

After crawling into the bag of presents as a baby at the orphanage, Buddy is adopted by Santa and raised among the elves in the North Pole. Years later, the now grown man - because he does not keep up with the work and his height - causes problems between the other elves. He discovers that he is not a real elf and decides to go back to New York to find his real father. There everyone looks at him strangely, because he behaves completely differently and nobody believes him when he tells where he comes from - especially his father...

Review! (because it's Christmas anyway).

Still a bit too American jolly, but this time I could enjoy the Christmas - Ferrell mix a bit more. Not really a character for a movie like this, but that's what makes it fun. Also because Favreau knows what he is doing.

Caan is a bit too flat, Deschanel is nice, the rest of the cast actually just hangs around. Fortunately, Favreau points his camera at Ferrell all the time, making it very easy to handle.

I don't care much for the whole Christmas scene, but Ferrell is a clumsy bulldozer who rumbles happily through New York as a mankind. Thought it was a bit better than the last time I saw it, so it's half there.

A slightly over-enthusiastic Elf.

If the movie had been made with someone other than Will Ferrell in the title role, I wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much as I do now. I can't help but have a soft spot for Ferrell in these kinds of roles.

Of course it's all pretty bland, but he brings it with his dryly funny head so infectiously that I can really enjoy it. Of course the ending is cringe-inducing when everyone bursts into singing, but hey, those kinds of tricks are part of such films. It didn't bother me, not even the supporting characters who supported the whole very well.

Unpretentious feel-good Christmas entertainment.

A film that fits Will Ferrell like a glove. I can laugh about it every now and then, but I also understand if people don't like it at all. With his often childish roles, he is the ideal person to play an elf, here a kind of big child. It's cheap and bland, but that's Ferrell in a nutshell.

Buddy gets into Santa's sack and ends up at the North Pole. Unlike his fellow elves, he continues to grow until it becomes clear to him that his real father lives in America. This is gruff businessman James Caan who regularly causes painful clashes. The hypersensitive Buddy who continuously stuffs himself with sweets that is constantly served up by his father often produces a small smile. Will's pathetic face remains funny, and the moments when he draws attention to himself with a scream are the best. Deschanel is a fun love interest and funny to see a younger Peter Dinklage.

The ending is indeed very bad and sweet, which doesn't quite fit into the totally non-subtle humor of Ferrell and Elf but hey, it's a Christmas movie after all. Not the best Christmas atmosphere in a movie, but fun to watch once every three Christmases.
