The Sporting Venus plot

It is 1914. Gwendolyn is the daughter of the wealthy Scotsman Sir Alfred Grayle. Because her mother has passed away and Sir Alfred actually wanted to have a boy, Gwendolyn grows up sharing his passion for sports. When Gwendolyn meets civilian and medical student Donald McAllen, she falls in love with him. Prince Carlos, who is heavily in debt, manages to get hold of Gwendolyn's wealth. Donald takes part in the war and when he returns, Carlos tells him - wrongly - that he is engaged to Gwendolyn.
