Alter Kahn und Junge Liebe plot

The freighter of shipowner Hinnerk Borchert is heavily mortgaged. To pay this off faster, Borchert engages in a risky game, because he loads much more than allowed. In doing so, he also risks his ship through a dangerous draft. His son Karl does not know that his father is doing this for him. Borchert wants Karl to have it better than himself someday. But Karl is only interested in the beautiful shipbuilding student Anne at the moment. Father and son only grow closer for the first time when a heavy storm almost turns into disaster.
